The chicken or the egg? We know the answer to that question – don’t we? Some scientists claim that the chicken (a bird) had to come first in order to lay the egg so that it could be hatched. Now you ask, “Where did that “bird” come from originally? Didn’t it evolve from a dinosaur, over time? This is getting complicated, isn’t it?

Forget those chicken and eggs that made Petaluma famous. Our Petaluma is no longer the “Egg Capital of the World.” It is still the birthplace of “Telecom Valley,” although that label has diminished, too, over the past few years. A couple of bloggers have raised questions about Petaluma’s “sense of community.” Do we still have one? Is it as inclusive and equal to the peak of the “Butter & Egg Days” or the “Telecom Boom Years?” Were these claims to fame based upon media hype only, or have Petalumans – deep down – always had a true “spirit of community?”

If this so called “sense” or “spirit” of community still exists, how does it play out? How does it display itself in our daily lives? How does it get reported via modern day forms of communication; i.e., radio, television, newspapers, Internet, or some other form of telecommunications? Hopefully, readers of this Weblog will join the dialogue and share their thoughts. In the meantime, I have two more question to ask, “To what degree is it necessary to have a “sense of neighborhood” before a “true” sense of community” is created? Or, doesn’t it really matter at all? As you can see, I’m struggling with appropriate answers and need your help. Stay tuned for the next wave of thoughts related to this topic.
