Life has been busy over the past few weeks and my blog themes and topics have reported on various projects such as CERT & NERT, the Senior Center Computer Lab, Wi-Fi hot spots, e-conference boards, etc, etc. I’ve been doing a lot of talking the talk, and I haven’t been walking the walk as much, lately. Maybe it’s time to cut back on the talk and spring into action with more walking the walk.

Posting a blog every day is hard work. The ideas pop into my head early in the day; it’s the typing (sorry, I mean keying) in the text and downloading photos that take time. My two fingers can only move so fast. Each day that passes, my appreciation of Bill Soberanes’ contributions to the Argus-Courier is heightened. Speaking of Bill, June 2nd is the day of his death in 2003. The Petaluma Press Club will hold one of its semi-annual get-togethers that afternoon at Volpi’s Bar to chat and mingle in his honor. The other memorial event is usually held in October, the month he was born and during the week of the Whiskerino Contest in Walnut Park. Stay tuned for more details, as we get closer to June 2nd.

Today’s Weblog will touch briefly on a variety of topics that will be worth exploring in greater depth during the days and weeks ahead. They will be updates on CBPs (Community-Benefit Programs) that will require less talking about and more let’s step up to the plate and get the job done.

Our Cyberplace: The front page headline in the SF Chronicle edition for May 20 read, The Age of Privacy. The article reported that the Gen Y-ers are concerned about the “spying” federal agencies can do without their consent; but are quite comfortable and willing to share highly personal thoughts and pictures about their daily activities with strangers, online. This issue deserves continued observations and comment. Stay tuned.

Our Petaluma: One of the walks I must get back to in a more pro-active way is preparing for Petaluma’s150th Anniversary celebration in 2008. The Petalumans of Yesteryear hope to recruit more local historical enthusiasts into its ranks. If you are interested in assuming the persona of a prominent Petaluman of the late 1800s or early 1900s, please contact this blogger. The Petalumans of Today need to know about the beginnings of this town’s sense of community.

Web of Life: The recent Petaluma River boat tours and the annual River Clean Up Day were highly successful and instrumental in helping citizens understand the importance of its historic creek and how it fits into a larger watershed. The addition of the headquarters for the Point Reyes Bird Observatory and its nature programs and research will enhance the understanding of our regional eco-system. As the city’s General Plan moves forward, it behooves us to be concerned about how our Web of Life will be impacted.

Then and Now: In addition to enlarging the ranks of the Petalumans of Yesteryear, the Petaluma Adult School’s Super-Saturday classes on September 9th will provide a unique opportunity to learn more about those people who influenced and those events that shaped Petaluma into the community it is today. Although it wasn’t a “way back then” in the 1800s event, the American Graffiti Salute on Saturday, brought together both young and old in celebration of a movie, filmed by George Lucas in 1972, that is known all over the world. It certainly brought back memories for the stars and audience, alike. Hopefully, it will become an annual event. What about the other movies filmed in Petaluma? Wouldn’t it be neat to have a week devoted to movies made in Petaluma during our Sesquicentennial Celebration?

Miscellaneous: This section of my blog is the “dumping ground” for those reflections that don’t fit in one of the other categories. My Friday Morning Coffee Group comes to mind. Our conversations are all over the map, but always interesting. Although our dialogues are “private” and “confidential,” some of the thoughts just might make it into one of my blogs. We’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned.

Don’t forget to post a comment on the blog of your choice. I’m getting tired of talking to myself
