Where does the time go? I thought that the “Information Highway” was supposed to speed things up and help us achieve our tasks in a more effective and efficient manner.

The first thing I do each morning (even before I read the newspaper), is turn on my computer and check the first batch of the 50 to 100 email messages that I receive each day. (OK, take away 10-20 for spam.) Then there are the electronic newsletters that deal with community networking, emergency preparedness, and information technology.

Before I know it, one to two hours have passed and I haven’t read the comics in the newspaper yet. If I experience a computer glitch, more time is spent trying to get back online. It’s 10 or 11 o’clock and I’m still in my bathrobe and bunny rabbit slippers.

As I have stated in earlier blogs, PetalumaNet was created over a decade ago to promote greater use of telecommunication and technology in all sectors of the community because it would help provide the “greatest good for the greatest number of people” in building a stronger sense of community.

With almost half the day shot, I’m a basket case. Have I been preaching the wrong message? My wife says that I’m a CyberRobot, not a Cybernaut, on my way to becoming a

Cyber-addict. Instead of roaming CyberSpace looking for applications that might prove beneficial in our Cyberspace-Petaluma-USA, I guess I’ve turned into a Cyber-nut.

Time out! Tune in, again, on another day. Perhaps I might have regained my Cyber-sense by then. Where’s the “Shut Down” switch?
