Can you believe that headline? The article in yesterday’s Press Democrat Business Section by Tim Barker of The Orlando Sentenial stated that “Every day, more than 70,000 new blogs are born on the Internet.” Our local Argus-Courier can claim credit for launching 20 blogs for readers in Our Cyberplace – Petaluma.

There was also a Pizza Party for these new bloggers to gather and mingle in order to talk about ways in which the online edition of the Argus-Courier might become a better portal site for the community and to better serve the needs of its viewers. Evidently, the newspaper staff has engaged other community groups in similar discussions. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Stay tuned as the Argus-Courier becomes more engaged with our Cyberplace.

Personally, I do not know exactly where my blogging will go in the future. To date, the stats indicate that the average number of viewers per day has quadrupled since the early weeks, and these viewers are reading an average of 110 pages per day. However, the number of comments posted by readers is sadly lacking. Barker’s article also mentioned blogs (aka as web logs or online diaries) are created to foster “conversation” and a “free-flowing exchange of ideas.” Hopefully, more Petalumans will interact with the local bloggers, as time goes on.

For now, stay tuned as we continue our personal journey along the Information Highway and our contributions to our local Cyberplace by sharing thoughts related to themes and topics, such as: Our Petaluma, Then & Now, Web of Life, Remembering Bill Soberanes The Saber-Tooth Curriculum, and other Miscellaneous Stuff.

On Our Radar Screen: A second public information meeting about CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) was held last night and it looks like another CERT course will be scheduled, starting in June. Stay tuned for details.
